DOES MY FAMILY HAVE TO ATTEND VAUGHAN BAPTIST CHURCH IN ORDER TO APPLY TO THE SCHOOL?

While VBCA was primarily founded to be a blessing to VBC families, parents who do not attend VBC but who desire their children to be educated in a traditional school setting from a Christian/Baptist perspective are welcome to apply. Each family must successfully complete the interview process. All families, regardless of whether or not they are VBC members, must read the school handbook and sign a statement of cooperation, acknowledging that they will respect the school’s doctrines, policies, and decisions. Because VBCA is a ministry of Vaughan Baptist Church, the beliefs of the church will be taught in the school. If, after acceptance into VBCA, a family feels that they cannot abide the beliefs and teachings of the school, the family must realize that VBCA will not change its religious beliefs to appease school families, and that VBCA may not be the best fit for their schooling needs.

IS EXTRA ACADEMIC HELP AVAILABLE FOR MY STUDENT SHOULD HE/SHE NEED IT?

Yes, there is a half-hour arithmetic and a half-hour language/reading help class available after school each week. Both are free of charge.

WHAT TYPE OF STUDENT DOES BEST AT VBCA?

Traditional education relies on and cultivates skills such as diligence, attentiveness, obedience, and respect for authority. Students who come from homes in which these skills are being actively taught and developed do best at VBCA. The academic curriculum is geared toward the average to above-average student. While help classes and our low student-teacher ratio can assist a struggling student, our school is not designed as a remedial school; nor is it a reform school for students with discipline or behavioural problems.

WILL MY CHILD LEARN FRENCH AT VBCA?

Yes, students begin learning basic French in grade 1 and continue to build their French language skills throughout their elementary and middle school years.

IS THERE A MUSIC CLASS AT VBCA?

Yes, students will participate in music class, where they will enjoy singing a variety of fun, silly songs, as well as sacred songs. They will learn proper singing techniques and fundamental music theory concepts.

WHAT TIME SHOULD I DROP OFF/PICK UP MY CHILD?

School begins at 8:15 A.M. Students may be dropped off as early as 7:30 A.M. free of charge. School is dismissed at 3:15 P.M. Afterschool care is provided free of charge until 4 P.M. After 4 P.M., care is provided until 5:30 P.M. at a cost of $3 for every 15-minute (or partial 15-minute) increment that a family's student(s) remain at school, with a total possible charge of $30 per week per family. All students must be picked up no later than 5:30 P.M.

DO STUDENTS BRING THEIR OWN LUNCHES?

Yes, students bring their own lunches. Microwavable items may be sent for student lunches; however, a refrigerator is not available for student use. Periodically, students will have the opportunity to purchase special lunch items such as pizza or subs. Parents will be given advanced notice of these special days.

DOES THE SCHOOL PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM SCHOOL?

The school does not provide transportation to or from school. However, there may be school families in your area that are willing to carpool. If you are interested in carpooling, please let the school office know.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOUR TEACHERS HAVE?

All of our teachers have earned at least a bachelor’s degree in their field, with several having earned a master’s degree. Each of our teachers is an active member of Vaughan Baptist Church and shares the doctrinal beliefs and standards of the church. We often recruit teachers from Christian colleges and seek those who have a heart for ministering to students and their families rather than simply putting in hours at a job.
